We escaped the cold of central London to try the Amba Hotel Charing Cross Afternoon Tea and enjoy Afternoon Tea featuring an array of delicious festive treats.
What better way to see the famous landmarks of Trafalgar Square than in the comfort and warmth of the Amba Hotel drinking a hot cup of tea from an ornately decorated china tea cup. With views of Nelson's Column and the National Portrait Gallery from their Terrace restaurant, it is the perfect pit stop on the way to theatre land and to escape the crowds of the Square. The Hotel itself is a magnificent Grade II listed building handily placed right beside Charing Cross Station. Inside the Terrace restaurant, aside from the superb view, the grand interior and relaxed atmosphere is an ideal setting for Afternoon Tea.
Their new festive Afternoon Tea offering, complete with a glass
of sparkling wine, is their own spin on the classic Afternoon Tea.
If you have never had a mince pie filling inside a classic macaroon
then we highly recommend it. A selection of white and brown bread
sandwiches to start, crammed full of tasty fillings, like cream
cheese and salmon or the cheese and chutney. All served on their
beautifully decorated crockery. The scones were bite sized and
crisp, served warm so the cream melted ever so slightly before
spreading their homemade strawberry jam.
Their festively decorated pastries include a macaroon with a mince pie filling, pistachio yule log and a chocolate cake. The macaroon was definitely the highlight of the Xmas trio. The pastries added the Christmas sparkle to the whole Afternoon Tea experience. These were the perfect portion size and were washed down with their Darjeeling tea from their delightfully decorated tea pots.
Retreating from the cold into the beautifully decorated restaurant is highly recommended. Especially to see their enormous Christmas tree in the main foyer and the various life-size tin solider Christmas decorations.
