As London Fashion Week drew to a close, AfternoonTea.co.uk had the opportunity to try the official London Fashion Week Afternoon Tea at The May Fair Hotel.
May Fair Hotel
have created a sumptuous Afternoon Tea in partnership with London
Fashion Week, featuring a colour palette inspired by the Spring and
Summer trends for 2016.
The Afternoon Tea is served in the May Fair Kitchen, which has been recently redesigned with bright yellow and turquoise blue accents which adds a light airy Mediterranean feel to the space. The interior features soft and comfortable furnishings, which are easy to settle in to - and are a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of busy Mayfair.
When seated, we were offered the tea menu. The tea menu has an array of choices to suit every preference including delicate flowering jasmine tea, strawberry and mango and of course, the quintessential to any English tea selection; English Breakfast. The tea is served in special china that is only used for the Fashion Afternoon Tea.
With the Champagne LFW Afternoon Tea, diners have the option to have a glass of Moët Chandon Vintage 2006 Champagne either at the beginning of the tea or at the end. We opted to have our glass alongside the tea, as an aperitif to the savouries.
The three parts of the Afternoon Tea are laid out together, scattered with edible flowers adding to the bright feel of the tea. As the tea was laid down, each element was explained in detail. We started with the savouries, which are made up of a selection of sandwiches and a buttery asparagus tart. A highlight of the savoury course was the re-imagination of the traditional egg sandwich - a spiced curried egg mayonnaise served on brioche, sprinkled with chives.
In polite company, the traditional course to enjoy after the savouries is the scones. We did no such thing - and skipped straight to the sweet selection. The selection of cakes and fancies beautifully shows off the Spring Summer 2016 colour palette, with splashes of coral, lemon and indigo blue. Each individual sweet reminisces of trends shown on the catwalk this week with the piece de resistance nestled in the middle - a raspberry and chocolate delice. Coated in a smooth jelly, with a layered cake centre this dessert is perfectly balanced in a way that would please chocolate addicts and fruit lovers alike. Another favourite for the Afternoon Tea team was the Kentish Cob nut mousse with whipped cream.
The sweets and savouries had more than touched the sides, but we couldn't ignore the all-important scone element of the Afternoon Tea. Spoilt with both cranberry and plain scones, and served with clotted cream and strawberry jam we found just enough room to enjoy both.
The London Fashion Week Afternoon Tea is available for just a few more weeks at The May Fair Kitchen. If you have found yourself still wanting after London Fashion Week, you can transport yourself back to the front row with this gorgeous SS16 inspired Afternoon Tea.
