Here at Afternoon Tea Towers the team are always on the look out for Afternoon Tea related news, reviews, seasonal menus, special events and competitions.
To celebrate the launch of Café Rouge’s Afternoon Tea, we visited the Sheffield branch on a sunny Bank Holiday weekend to see if France can rival England’s unrivalled tradition of High Tea.
We were not disappointed...
We were greeted warmly on arrival and seated at one of Café Rouge's signature maroon leather banquettes. The waiter promptly brought over two glasses of Prosecco as we settled in, basking in the glow of the late morning sunshine streaming through the windows.
Three tiers of delicious finger foods were then brought to us and we began with the creamy, indulgent croque monsieur with garlicky mushrooms (for carnivores there is also the option of ham); served in a generous portion of three packed slices in a lightly toasted bread, the crispiness perfectly offset the richness of the cheese.
Next up, the scones: lovingly hand-baked and served with clotted cream and a delicious jam, they crumbled perfectly and were served with juicy, moreish strawberries.
The final tier had a selection of quintessentially English cakes ranging from lemon - sweet and citrusy - to a hearty serving of carrot cake. Also included was a chocolate, raspberry and coconut cake, but the crème de la crème was the chocolate red velvet cake - the buttercream smooth and the sponge soft, it was the perfect ending to a stunning Afternoon Tea.
The staff were incredibly attentive and replenished our glasses, ensuring our meal was satisfactory despite the busy lunchtime rush hour and the venue itself is an idyllic Parisian environment to add a touch of class to the meal.
There are lots of Cafe Rouge restaurants offering the gorgeous Afternoon Tea UK-Wide, find out more.
