The AfternoonTea.co.uk team recently visited Michelin-starred chef, Ollie Dabbous and Hedonism Wines newly opened Restaurant, HIDE, to try out their unique take on the much-loved tradition of Afternoon Tea.
After a short stroll from Green Park tube station, we arrived at this beautiful Mayfair restaurant which has a prime location on Piccadilly. The restaurant is only a short walk to some of London's most popular attractions including Green Park, Buckingham Palace, Bond Street and the theatre district, the perfect spot to enjoy Afternoon Tea after a busy day exploring the city!
The restaurant is set across three floors dubbed 'Below, Ground and Above' all connected by a stunning oak staircase that spirals through the centre of the restaurant.
Afternoon Tea is served on "Ground" which is the all-day dining area and bakery. The restaurant is flooded with natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a relaxed environment to enjoy Afternoon Tea. The Interior is inspired by nature which is immediately clear by the gorgeous hand-crafted wooden furniture.
On our arrival we were warmly greeted and escorted to our table with views onto the busy street of Piccadilly. We were handed a menu by our friendly waiter, who expertly talked us through our options. To assist with our tea selection, he brought over a large display of Mariage Frères Teas - as you can see, we were spoilt for choice! I opted for the Marco Polo Rough which was served in a stunning glass teapot.
You can see that the savouries fitted perfectly with the style of the restaurant. The most unique savoury dish had to be the white asparagus & truffle cream; smoked egg yolk, which arrived in a white egg shell, surrounded by white feathers.
The sandwiches did not disappoint either! They arrived wrapped in brown paper, tied neatly with brown ribbon. My particular favourite was the corn-fed chicken, butter lettuce, tarragon & garlic mayonnaise.
We enjoyed the freshly baked scones, still warm from the oven, complimented by a lashing of cream and strawberry & hibiscus jam.
The cakes looked too beautiful to eat! The lemon verbena sponge had an amazing glazed marble effect! In keeping with the Hide's unique take on Afternoon Tea, the sweet plate was accompanied by candyfloss and wild herbs, which I thought was a lovely added touch.
This was a truly delightful experience having a unique Afternoon Tea experience in the heart of Mayfair and served by wonderfully attentive staff. If you are looking for a memorable Afternoon Tea in London, this is one not to be missed!
