After being awarded the 'Best Traditional Afternoon Tea' in the 2017 Afternoon Tea Awards, Hotel Café Royal London has joined forces with luxury French perfumer diptyque to create a sensory tea experience like no other.
The "diptyque Afternoon Tea" is a fusion of scent and taste, designed to satisfy several senses. This Afternoon Tea features finger sandwiches and pastries inspired by diptyque's signature scents.
Hotel Café Royal's celebrated Executive Pastry Chef Sarah Barber has collaborated with diptyque to interpret their signature Roses, Vanilla, Violette and Verveine scents as artfully crafted desserts.
The first creation is the Rose Victoria, a Victoria sponge with a raspberry and rose jam, a lychee and rose mousse, topped with silver leaf and crystallised rose. Dainty and floral, this pastry is a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.
The next dessert is the Tahitian Vanilla Bar, a delightful Tahitian vanilla sponge topped with hazelnut praline feuilletine and a Valrhona 'Opalys' ganache.
This is followed by the fragrant and sweet Violet and Cassis Tart, made with sweet pastry and filled with violet cream and blackcurrant jam.
The final dessert is the colourful Lemon Verbena, a Verveine infused lemon cream with an orange cremeux on a sable Breton base.
The desserts are beautifully fragrant and are as visually satisfying as they are appetising, as Sarah Barber notes they are "creative pastries that work on several sensory levels."
The "diptyque Afternoon Tea" is served with a choice of 30 tea blends and infusions, with the option of adding Champagne for an extra touch of luxury. Served in the opulent Oscar Wilde Bar, tea service is accompanied by a live pianist.
Each diner at the "diptyque Afternoon Tea" will receive a luxury gift wrapped Baies candle, scented with Bulgarian roses and blackcurrant leaves, to remind them of the "diptyque Afternoon Tea" experience.
Available from 1st September 2017 until the 16th November 2017, the "diptyque Afternoon Tea" is served daily from 2pm until 5pm Monday to Wednesday, and from noon until 5pm Thursday to Sunday.
