Thornbury Castle is a magnificent Tudor castle-palace set in extensive gardens and parkland. The third Duke of Buckingham received a royal licence to start building the castle in 1510. King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn stayed here in 1535 and Queen Mary I lived at Thornbury for several years.
Much of the original 16th Century building still remains and is now a luxury hotel with fascinating historical details such as coats of arms, intricate oriel windows and ornate carved ceilings.
