Review: Afternoon Tea at Jacqueline at The Chancery Rosewood
Afternoon Tea at Jacqueline, inside The Chancery Rosewood London, feels like stepping into a calmer, more graceful pace of life. It is elegant without being stiff, luxurious without ever feeling showy. Set within the former U.S. Embassy on Grosvenor Square, the tearoom carries a quiet sense of history, where British tradition and American legacy meet in the heart of Mayfair.
The experience begins, as it should, with tea. And here, tea is treated with real reverence. With over 100 blends from around the world, guests are guided by a Tea Sommelier through three carefully chosen infusions. This extra tea service adds depth to the experience, allowing flavours and aromas to unfold gradually. It feels thoughtful and unhurried, turning tea into the heart of the afternoon rather than just an accompaniment.

The first course brings a selection of finger sandwiches, beautifully presented and rooted in tradition. Each one has a note of familiarity, yet is subtly elevated. The egg and black winter truffle is rich but balanced, while the Montgomery cheddar on brown bread offers comfort. Smoked salmon with caper leaf and dill cream on rye is fresh and clean, and the compressed cucumber with mint and cream cheese is light and refreshing. The coronation chicken, with coriander and sun-dried apricots on spiced bread, adds warmth and gentle spice without overpowering the palate.

Next come the scones, warm and inviting. Both plain and raisin are served with Devonshire clotted cream, strawberry and rose essence jam, and a bright Seville orange marmalade. This is the most traditional moment of the tea, and it is done beautifully and deeply satisfyingly.
The final course is where Jacqueline truly shines. Created by Executive Pastry Chef Marius Dufay, the pastries reflect his French patisserie background and his respect for classic technique. Each piece is simply elegant and carefully crafted.

The hazelnut religieuse is smooth and indulgent, layered with praline cream. The mocha parfait combines deep chocolate with a delicate crunch. Yorkshire rhubarb is paired with hibiscus custard and light sponge, offering freshness and balance, while the Menton lemon tart is bright, sharp, and fragrant with bergamot is a beautiful to start with as a palate cleanser.
Afternoon Tea at Jacqueline is about grace, balance, and detail. A refined yet welcoming experience that honours tradition while adding a subtle French touch and one that lingers in memory long after the last cup of tea is poured.
