Review: Afternoon Tea at St. Pancras London
St Pancras is one of London's most recognisable buildings, known for its striking Victorian Gothic architecture and rich history. Stepping inside feels like a change of pace from the busy streets outside, making it a lovely spot to settle in and enjoy a leisurely afternoon.
The interior combines the building's historic character with comfortable seating and plenty of atmosphere. In the lounge, the surroundings feel relaxed enough for a long conversation but special enough for a celebration. Afternoon Tea feels particularly fitting in a building with so much history, and it makes the whole experience feel like a special London escape, even if you live nearby.

The first course of the Afternoon Tea is a selection of finger sandwiches, with five different fillings that range from familiar favourites to more interesting combinations. Each brings something different, so there is a good variety of flavours to try. Starting with the wild mushrooms and Gruyère, with thyme tart, which has wonderful savoury, earthy flavours. The mushrooms bring a rich, rounded taste, while Gruyère adds a creamy texture and a slightly nutty flavour.
The sandwiches are traditional flavours, upleveled. Egg mayonnaise is a classic Afternoon Tea filling, and this version adds a few extra touches. The chicken sandwich is a little more indulgent, thanks to the black truffle aioli. Smoked salmon is a natural choice for Afternoon Tea, and this combination sounds particularly fresh. Cucumber ribbons give the sandwich a light crunch, and rye bread adds a slightly deeper flavour that works well with the salmon.
The whipped goat's cheese, pear chutney and roasted hazelnuts on caraway bread is one of the more unusual options on the menu. The goat's cheese has a creamy texture and a gentle tang, which works well with the sweetness of pear chutney. Roasted hazelnuts add crunch, while caraway bread brings a distinctive, lightly spiced flavour. It is a good example of how the menu takes familiar sandwich ingredients and combines them in a different way.

For many people, the scones are the highlight of Afternoon Tea, and this menu keeps things traditional with both plain and raisin buttermilk scones. Served warm, the plain scones are a classic choice, whereas the raisin version adds little bursts of sweetness. They are served with strawberry jam, blackberry and apple jam, and Cornish clotted cream, giving guests a variety of ways to enjoy them.

The highlight of the sweet selection is the range of patisserie, each offering a different combination of flavours and textures. There is a good mix of fruity, chocolatey and lighter options, so there is something to suit all tastes.
The matcha green tea and yuzu roulade sounds particularly refreshing. Matcha has a gentle earthy flavour, while yuzu adds a fresh citrus note that helps balance the sweetness. The rolled sponge also makes for an attractive addition to the cake stand, with its layers creating a lovely visual effect.
For chocolate lovers, the Manjari 64% dark chocolate, Morello cherry and chilli mousse is an interesting choice, where the pastry chefs can show off their intricate skills. The rich chocolate is balanced by the sharpness of the cherries, while the chilli adds a little warmth.
The macerated pineapple and star anise-infused whipped ganache choux offers something a little different. The pineapple brings a sweet, fruity freshness, while star anise adds a subtle hint of spice. Combined with the light filling and choux pastry, it offers a contrast of textures that is truly delicious.
Another appealing option is the spiced carrot sponge with cold-pressed orange jelly and bay leaf mousse. The familiar warmth of carrot cake flavours is lifted by the freshness of orange, while the bay leaf adds a gentle herbal note. It is a thoughtful combination that gives a well-loved flavour a slightly different twist.

The Afternoon Tea at St. Pancras London offers a lovely mix of traditional favourites and more creative patisserie.
The presentation, attentiveness of the staff and atmosphere adds to the experience, while the choice of teas and champagne means the experience can suit anything from a relaxed afternoon out to a special celebration.
