Afternoon Tea is served in the elegant dining area, but in warmer months it is possible to enjoy it on the seafront listening to the waves is the perfect accompaniment to this traditional Afternoon Tea. If the weather is also being typically British, the dining room also looks over the sea providing a serene backdrop for your afternoon indulgence.

Hotel Riviera has upheld the tradition of Afternoon Tea, served upon crisp white tablecloths, fine China, and napkins as you settle in for an iconic Afternoon Tea by the Sea. Served on a three tiered stand showcasing all courses of the experience, we start with the sandwiches. 

These delicate finger sandwiches are filled with variety of fillings, from classic cucumber to smoked salmon. The bread is fresh, and the combinations are delightful. 

Moving onto, arguably the most iconic course – scones! These delights are homemade, served warm with an option of plain or with raisins. As we’re in Devon, we have to do it the correct way – layering lashes of clotted cream first, that slightly melts on the warm centre, before topping it with a sweet strawberry preserve. 

The sweet finale includes a tempting array of cakes, from dainty pastries to rich slices. My personal favourite being the rich, indulgent triple chocolate brownie. The orange and almond cake is equally delicious, as is the carrot cake topped with an elegant mascarpone cream crown. Whilst enjoying these, you can sip on numerous Speciality Teas, infusions, or green teas to complete this quintessential treat.
