Afternoon Tea Awards 2024 - 'Award of Excellence'

Rosewood London’s Mirror Room is thrilled to unveil its latest Art Afternoon Tea collection, an immersive and visually striking experience inspired by the renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. Known for his unique depictions of landscapes and portraiture, Hokusai’s style has been translated into a selection of exquisite Art Cakes. 

This one-of-a-kind offering seamlessly blends art, flavour, and culture into an unforgettable Afternoon Tea experience.
The menu elevates traditional afternoon tea with both sweet and savoury delights. It begins with a selection of Japanese-inspired savoury bites, including Japanese BBQ Beef Brisket with Wasabi Coleslaw on a Milk Bun, Sake Marinated Smoked Salmon with Yuzu Kosho Mayo, Caviar & Dill, and a Japanese Egg Sandwich.

The sweet selection, created by Executive Pastry Chef Mark Perkins, will then invite guests to indulge in a delicate Cheesecake subtly infused with Japanese citrus. Served alongside freshly baked scones, clotted cream, and jam, this exquisite treat offers a perfect balance of flavours and textures.

The grand finale comes in the form of The Art Cakes, each hidden within a bespoke “Washitsu” reveal box inspired by traditional Japanese entertaining spaces. The exterior panels, complete with intricate depictions of Hokusai’s masterpieces, slide away to unveil an array of exquisite cakes, each a tribute to one of his most celebrated works.

To complement the menu, the Mirror Room has curated an exclusive selection of Japanese teas. Guests can also enhance their experience with a table-side matcha brewing ceremony. For those seeking to elevate their afternoon tea further, a duo of handcrafted cocktails inspired by Hokusai’s masterpieces and Japanese flavour profiles will be available. The Lantern Ghost, a sophisticated blend of Roku Gin, yuzu, strawberry, umeshu, orange blossom, and citrus, offers a vibrant and aromatic sip. For a non-alcoholic alternative, Zen combines Seedlip Garden, Martini Floreale, CBD oil, and lemon oil, delivering a refreshing and balanced flavour.

Beyond the culinary offering, the Mirror Room will host Japanese woodblock printing demonstrations in partnership with local artists and art schools. These live workshops will allow guests to witness the intricate craftsmanship behind this traditional technique, further enhancing the connection between art and dining.

With delicate floral arrangements, bonsai trees, and curated décor inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, the Mirror Room provides an enchanting setting for this artistic Afternoon tea.
