Review: Bridgerton Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough

by The AfternoonTea.co.uk Team

The new Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough is an incredibility elegant affair. Inspired by Bridgerton, it draws on the romance and visual splendour of the series without losing sight of what truly matters: well-executed food and a refined setting.

Served in the hotel’s impressive dining room, the experience immediately feels special. The surroundings are grand yet comfortable, providing the perfect backdrop for a leisurely afternoon. While the theme is clear, it never feels forced or theatrical; rather, it subtly informs the presentation and detailing.

The savoury course is thoughtfully composed. Traditional finger sandwiches sit alongside a few contemporary additions, all prepared with care and good-quality ingredients. The smoked salmon is delicately balanced, the chicken well seasoned, and a truffled potato slider adds a slightly more indulgent touch. Portions are generous enough to satisfy without being overwhelming.

Scones arrive warm, with a pleasingly soft interior and a light golden crust, accompanied by ample clotted cream, lemon curd and jam: they are exactly as one would hope.

The pastries are where the Bridgerton inspiration becomes more visible. Beautifully crafted and neatly finished, they are as enjoyable to eat as they are to admire. A light lemon sponge with vanilla cream and yuzu offers freshness, while a chocolate mousse provides a richer counterpoint. A fruit-led option rounds out the selection, ensuring variety and balance across the stand.

A particular highlight is the beautifully presented sharing cake, which brings a sense of occasion to the table. Designed as a centrepiece, it’s both visually striking and generous enough for two to enjoy comfortably. Beyond its decorative flourishes, the cake itself is carefully balanced in flavour - light sponge layered with smooth cream and a bright, fruit-led element that prevents it from feeling overly sweet. It’s a thoughtful addition that encourages a slower pace, inviting guests to linger a little longer over the final course.

Guests may choose to enhance the occasion with a glass of Champagne from Laurent-Perrier or opt for a themed cocktail featuring Hendrick's Gin, or mocktail, both of which complement the experience beautifully, with a mascarade mask embellishing the glass.

The Lanesborough’s Bridgerton Afternoon Tea is more than a meal: it’s an experience. It beautifully honours British tea traditions while embracing the glamour and drama of Regency England, making it an unmissable affair for lovers of exquisite cuisine and genteel storytelling alike.
